The Outdoor Electric Grill: Convenience And Great Taste
You can purchase grills that run on various fuels such as natural charcoal (the one all the experts generally use), propane (which doesn't impart any flavor to the barbecued food) or an outdoor electric grill.
One of the major advantages of an outdoor electric grill is that it is smokeless. Smoke can add carcinogens to food (of course, barbequing can too). Propane for grills comes in tanks, though, and those tanks tend to run out of fuel just before the steaks are ready to be put on the grill. With an outdoor electric grill, the fuel is at the ready. There's no hauling the tank to the nearest propane dealer for a costly refill. Simply plug in the grill and grill up those steaks.
The handiness of an outdoor electric grill is the ability to just plug it into any nearby outlet. You might need an extension cord; but that's much easier to get than if you have to purchase a refill tank of propane or go buy charcoal. Also, with charcoal, you have the problem of cleanup afterwards. You have to dump the spent charcoal, let it cool, wet it down, pick it up (a messy job) and discard it.
Some of the major brands of outdoor electric grills are Weber, Meco, Broil King, Brinkman, Masterbuilt and Char Broil.
Meco's model 9350W Electric BBQ Grill is on a cart and has a window and plastic side Trays. It's for doing barbeque OUTDOORS only! This Meco electric grill has a UL-listed, 1670-watt heating element which plugs into any standard household outlet and requires a minimum of 15 amps. This outdoor electric grill features a removable thermostat control with low, medium and high setting. It has a sturdy cart with wire lower-shelf for extra storage, 2 weather-resistant ABS side trays which are removable & dishwasher safe, 3 element positions. There a vertical for indirect rotisserie cooking, a reflector pan that directs heat to the cooking surface and a pre-assembled grill hood & bowl. However, it doesn't include a rotisserie.
Brinkmann outdoor electric grills (which some inappropriately spell 'Brinkman') are a favorite. They're model 810-5304-6 Smoke'N Grill Electric Smoker and Grill Value Pack is made of Stainless Steel, so it will last forever. It has a list price of $250. This stainless-steel electric smoker and grill with stay-cool wooden handles has two chrome-plated steel cooking grills. It can hold up to 50 pounds of food and has a 1500-watt heating element. There's a heat indicator on the domed lid and a front-hinged door. The steel water pan will keep meat moist, and it has a smoker basket. It comes with a vinyl cover, and a few hickory chunks are included.
So, although an outdoor electric grill functions just as its counterparts do, unlike charcoal grills, the cooked food won't have that smoky flavor. For some that's a disadvantage, for others, that's a good thing. However, for some, this disadvantage is enough to dismiss the electric grill. If the purpose of cooking outdoors is to get that specific flavoring, an electric grill just isn't good enough.
